Re: proposed ‘Battle of the Hoods’ on Thursday 16 February at 3.00pm

It has been brought to our attention via the Ministry of Education and social media that a proposed ‘Battle of the Hoods’ has been planned for this Thursday 16 February 2023, at 3pm at the Christchurch Bus Exchange. This appears to be a copycat event from a similar one planned in Hamilton last week.

We are uncertain about who is organising this event and even if it will eventuate, but wanted to advise all whānau about it so that you can take the appropriate measures to avoid being in the vicinity of the Christchurch Bus Exchange this Thursday at 3.00pm. The social media posts also indicate that this event could occur at Eastgate at 4pm on Friday.

We do not wish to alarm people unnecessarily, and it may not affect many families, however we have been advised to take this matter seriously which is why we are informing you about it. The NZ police are very aware of this situation and will be making plans to maintain safety within the community.
