Time 2 Talk – Parent Information Night

Tuesday 20th September 7- 8:30pm at school.

An evening for parents of children at all year levels.

(Please note this event is not suitable for you to bring your children.  The focus is on equiping parents).

In today’s digital world, young people being exposed to pornography isn’t a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’. Pornography is sweeping through our society like a tsunami, and we have yet to see the long-term impacts. By providing strategies that allow parents and kids to work as a team, we can mitigate the harmful effects of pornography on Aotearoa’s young people.

Tāima Kōrero equips parents and educators with the tools to effectively talk about pornography with young people. By having the right conversations in a timely way, we can reduce the impact of pornography and support our young people to have healthy sexual relationships as adults.

Brett Harvey will share from his own experience,  research and within the framework of his personal Christian faith.

Testimonial:

“Dealing with anything to do with pornography can be an incredibly difficult and sensitive conversation. The Time 2 Talk Team handle this potentially explosive topic with great dignity, value, and authenticity. Their presentation contains a very positive, inspiring, and encouraging message while at times needs to be confronting and challenging. ALL adults (not just parents), will benefit from the words of wisdom and hope that are passionately shared. The Time 2 Talk Team are VERY easy to deal with and will not push themselves on any school or organisation. They listen and tailor their message to meet your needs. Their overall aim is simple. They have a genuine desire to help parents help children to stand against the toxic and insidious effects of pornography.”

Board of Trustee Elections

Please see the document below (click on the link) with the candidates statements for the upcoming board election.

All parents on the electoral roll will also be sent a copy with their voting papers which are being prepared and will be sent out by mail.

Students asking for food at the Office

Recently we have had a lot of students coming to the Office saying they have eaten all their lunch but they are still hungry or they have forgotten their lunch.

We do have some noodles, rice crackers and muesli bars to give students who forget their lunch but we are finding we are going through these very quickly at the moment.

Please could you have a discussion with your child about ensuring they pack enough food in their lunchboxes.  We encourage the students to let their parents know that they need more food in their lunchbox after they have asked for something to eat from the Office.

Two Minute Noodles for lunch
We have a lot of students coming to the Office needing boiling water for their two minute noodles.  We are happy to do this from time to time but would ask that if you plan to send your children with noodles daily, please send along a thermos flask with hot water so they can add water themselves.

Likewise we give out a large number of plastic forks each day to students who bring two minute noodles for their lunch but do not bring a fork.
If you give your children noodles, please also give them a fork.

2023 Year 7 & 8 Camp

If your child will be in Year 7 or 8 in 2023 we will be going to Hanmer Springs on the 29th – 31st of March for our Camp.
At this stage the cost of camp will be around $250 per person.  The contributions toward this camp will be received as tax deductible donations.
If you would like to set up a payment plan, please see Louise Morrison at the office or email office@emmanuelchristian.school.nz

Year 9 & 10 Business Enterprise

The Businesses are selling things like hot chips, pizza and sushi.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school!

When: Tues 23rd – Fri 26th August 8:30 – 9:30 am , 2:30 – 3:30 pm

Where: The Library

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school!  This is fun opportunity to buy books and support reading at Emmanuel.

On Thursday 25th August as part of this week we will have a book character day, students are encouraged to come dressed as a favourite book character.

The Book Fair will be set up in the library, and open for all from 8.30 to 9.30 in the morning, and 2.30 to 3.30 in the afternoon from Tuesday through to Friday.

A Scholastic Book Fair can be a great benefit to our school. A portion of each sale at the Fair earns Scholastic Rewards which can be spent on books for our classrooms and library. If we sell over $750 of product, we earn 30% of the total sales back to spend on books. In addition, there is an opportunity for you to donate books to your child’s class or to the library.

As well as books there will be novelty stationery items to purchase from as little as a few dollars each.

Your child may bring home a personal Wishlist of items that they have seen at the Fair. Please don’t feel obliged to purchase these items. However, should you be unable to make it to the Fair personally and would like to purchase something, there is an option to order books on the back of this Wishlist or on the Scholastic brochure.

There will be a number of competitions running at the fair. Prizes will be a $20 voucher to spend at the fair. Winners will be announced on Thurs the 25th Aug.

Scholastic Book Fair Parent Helpers – If you would like to volunteer to help with the Scholastic Book Fair please let Christina de Vries know on 021 022 41195.

In particular, we are looking for Parents to man the Fair in the afternoons from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
