ECS Update Term 1, Week 11 – Friday 11th April 2025

Kia ora Parents and Caregivers,

In just over a week we celebrate Easter.  The incredible undeserved gift from God.  That the creator of the universe would choose to send His Son to live as a man, and pay the price for our sins is really to big to comprehend.  This really is the most incredible act of love.  Don’t just let this weekend pass you by: Slow down. Get away from distractions. Quiet your soul and wait patiently upon the Lord. Pray as you read his Word and meditate on his truths that our God would come and meet with you right where you are at.

Thank you for all your support during Term 1.  It has been great to enjoy together so many things across this term.  Looking back there have been many highlights including: start of year mihi whakatau, swimming sports, Easter services.   I am incredibly grateful for the support we have received from the parent community and also the continued hard work from the staff.

Thank you again for your support and prayers for the school.  Enjoy the term break and we look forward to seeing everyone back for Term 2 on Monday 28th April.

Over the course of the term many of our students have been working hard in preperation for the School musical production ‘Faith News’.  We are pleased to be able to let you know that tickets are now available.  See below for more information.

This is an event not to be missed.

Blessings

Ngā mihi nui

Alistair

Join us for a fun, supportive workout where Mums of all fitness levels can come together, move and motivate each other every step of the way.
It’ll be on every Thursday morning during Term 2. The class starts at 9:15 to 10:00am at 90 Highsted Road, in the back hall of the Reformed Church of Bishopdale.
It’s a fun, circuit-style workout that works for all fitness levels, with moves that can be modified to suit you. At just $5 per class, all funds will go to help build a new school playground. Concessions are available for just $40 for the term, available from the school office. Younger kids are welcome to hang out in the play area (just keep an eye on them!).

School Board Introductions

After introducing the Board we wanted to provide the chance to hear a little more about current BOT members. We’ll profile one or two of the group each week for the rest of the term.

Natalie Sterne – Parent Elected Representative

Kia ora koutou,

I’m Natalie and I’m married to Tim. I have a long-standing connection with Emmanuel Christian School, I am an ex-pupil of the school (right back at it’s original location of Worcester St) and now having our three children here, Toby, Abigail and Emma. I have been involved in Education as a Secondary Teacher since 2009, as well as a short stint working with trainee teachers during their placements. I also work alongside Tim in our own business, Basalt Solutions, working in the Education Sector.
When not teaching, I enjoy exercising and playing sport, reading and balancing family life, running our children to their various sporting activities.
Our family attends Latimer Church where we are involved in many things including growth group leading, marriage mentoring, hospitality and other roles within our 4pm church service. We love being part of the Emmanuel community and being able to serve this community by being on the Board for the past 2 ½ years has been a real blessing.

John Hastie – Proprietor Appointed Representative
Hi ECS community,

I’m John and I am married to Tracey.   We have had children at Emmanuel since we moved to Christchurch in 2018, after spending time in Auckland and on the mission field in Bolivia.  Now we are blessed to have our granddaughter there too.
I have been on the BOT for most the time I have been associated with Emmanuel, first as a Parent Representative,  then I was co-opted on, and now as a Proprietor Representative.   I have enjoyed my time on the BOT and have received many blessings as I have seen the school grow.
I am currently a Foundry Manager in a small jobbing foundry.  This is a fulfilling  and hot job.
We attend Papanui Baptist Church, and run a small group in our house.

I enjoy spending time with my family, exploring NZ, and on the our beautiful beaches.

Attendance Dues

Thank you to all of you who have paid or are in the process of paying your 2025 Attendance Dues.

For those of you who have not done so yet, can we please remind you of these and ask you to make sure you have a plan in place to meet these payments.  If your situation is making this difficult then please contact Alistair to find a time to talk about this and how the trust can support you. email: principal@emmanuelchristian.school.nz

Y11 programme at Middleton Grange Information evening

For current Year 9 and 10 Parents:

We am sure that many of you are currently considering the different options available once your child(ren) graduate from Emmanuel Christian School.  For those of you with a child in Year 10 in 2025 applications for places at secondary schools normally close in early to mid June each year.

We are aware that for many of you Middleton Grange is the planned next step.

Along with a number of other secondary schools, from the start of 2025 Middleton Grange ceased offering NCEA at level 1.  There are a number of reasons why they have made this decision, replacing it from 2025 onwards with a locally developed Year 11 programme and certificate.

On Wednesday 30th April, Shane McConnell (Deputy Principal – Head of Senior College at Middleton Grange) is coming to Emmanuel to run an information session for any Emmanuel parents to provide the reasons for this change, and to let you know how this is working for Middleton Year 11 students.

This is a great chance to come and meet with Shane, learn about this part of the Year 11 programme and ask any other questions related to Middleton’s Senior programme.

Wednesday 30th April (first week of Term 2)

7-8pm

A light supper will be provided

Lost Property

There is a lot of lost property including polar fleeces, jerseys/cardigans, drink bottles, lunch boxes and clothing in the lost property box outside K5/K6 in the Office hallway.

Please come and check through the Lost Property even if you don’t think your child has lost anything.  You might be surprised!

Anything not claimed by the end of Term 1 will be discarded.

Please continue to name your child’s uniform and other items such as drink bottles and lunch boxes.  If they have a name on them we can return them to their owner but if there is no name, or the name is a previous student there is no way for us to reunite these items with their owners.

If you are looking to buy some labels, we have set up an on-going fundraising link through Precious Labels. They sell a wide range of labels from stick-on labels for drink bottles, lunchboxes and shoes to stick-on, sew-on and iron-on clothing labels.

When you purchase anything from Precious Labels using our affiliate link below, the fundraising committee will receive 20% commission.
