ECS Update Term 1, Week 4 – Friday 21 February 2025

Kia ora Parents and Caregivers,

At Emmanuel Christian School we talk about the ECS Way:

Excellence

Christ Like Character

Service

Wisdom

Over the next 4 weeks I want to take the chance to reflect on each of these:

Excellence is always an interesting topic, often confused with perfection (that we can not achieve).  Or used as a point of comparison, I can’t do this as well as…., we are doing this better than…  .  But perhaps best considered as a staircase we can continue to climb, how do we do this better, what can we improve. And critically how does this bring glory to God.

We serve a God who made everything “very good” (Genesis 1:31) and we follow a Saviour who “has done all things well” (Mark 7:37).

As followers of Christ when we commit to excellence in all that we do, we need to do so in a way which brings maximum honour and glory to God our Saviour.  Excellence is never about us looking better, it is about God being honoured more clearly, more deeply.  When we live our lives for Christ with excellence, Christ is seen more, we are seen less. Glory goes to God.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men …. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3: 23-24)

Blessings
