ECS Update Term 1, Week 9 – Friday 28th March 2025

Kia ora Parents and Caregivers,

Thank you again for your support, it seems as if the term is passing by very quickly.  I am certainly aware of the disruption of ongoing building work, security fences etc as the school continues to grow and develop.  We are looking forward to being able to make use of some new spaces from early next term.

Over the coming weeks you will also see work begin on the back field as this is reshaped and sown so that it can be used as a playing field.

One thing many of you will be aware of that has occured this term are the rehearsals for our production ‘Faith News’ which is really coming together well.  We are looking forward to being able to share this with you next term.  The performance will be on Wednesday 14th May.  Put this in your calendars, it will be an event not to miss.  Ticketing information will be sent out over the next few days.

Blessings

Ngā mihi nui

Precious Labels Fundraiser

You know how much we love it when students’ items (especially polar fleeces) are clearly labelled!  It makes the job of matching up lost fleeces with their owners so much easier.  Here is your chance to purchase personalised clothing labels for your child’s uniform and other personal items.

We have set up an on-going fundraising link through Precious Labels which is NZ owned and operated. They sell a wide range of labels from stick-on labels for drink bottles, lunchboxes and shoes to stick-on, sew-on and iron-on clothing labels.

They have a huge range of personalisation options to help your child recognise their labelled items and uniform.

When you purchase anything from Precious Labels using our affiliate link below, the fundraising committee will receive 20% commission.

Thank you for your support.

Thank you (Spare Uniform)

Thank you very much for the donations of items for us to keep with our spare uniforms for when accidents happen and little ones need a change of clothes.

We have enough items donated now, thank you!

Autism Awareness non-uniform Day

Autism Day was created to spread awareness and promote the understanding of the autism spectrum (ASD). It’s a day to celebrate every unique individual that God has wonderfully created. It is estimated that worldwide about 1 in 100 children have autism. Approximately 1-2% of New Zealanders are autistic. This translates to roughly 1 in 54 young people. On Wednesday 2nd of April, Emmanuel will be holding an Autism awareness day. We ask that the students come to school dressed in non uniform clothes and bring a gold coin donation.

“Hoods up, volume down”, we encourage students to wear a Hoodie as a way to raise awareness for Autism.

All proceeds fundraised will be donated to Autism New Zealand.

Nathan, Lily, and Mr. LJ

Board Introductions

After introducing the Board we wanted to provide the chance to hear a little more about current BOT members. We’ll profile one or two of the group each week for the rest of the term.

Shawn Liu – Parent Elected Representative

Hi ECS family,

I’m Shawn, husband to Christine (or Mrs. Liu to ECS kids) with our 2 boys, Ethan 12 and Elias 11.

By God’s grace, I have been very blessed to be involved with my boys and their school life since they were in Harakeke. Because I grew up in Asia in the 80s when more traditional learning environments did not involve parents, this experience as a parent in ECS over the last 7 years has been simply incredible.

Now, that I am part of the school board makes it seem like a full circle to complete my experience as a parent representative. I am truly grateful to be in the company of knowledge and experience that’s been shared at every meeting to help our students thrive. Each board meeting opened my eyes to the depth of work done by the board in the background for the entire community of ECS, we are very blessed!

Our family currently worships in a local church on Kendall Ave, St Timothy where I am on the staff team and I lead a missional multi-ethnic community called Nexus. I am passionate to meet people from all over the world who are arriving on Aoteoroa soil and settling into our communities. On top of juggling between the different roles, I am also studying full-time in Laidlaw as a 3rd year Theological student to academically and practically answer my call in God’s great mission for all of us.

Thank you for the opportunity to represent you, the parent.

Rod Thompson – EPT Appointed Representative

Kia ora koutou

I’m new to the Board at Emmanuel Christian School. My wife Rebecca and I are both teachers. I’ve been involved in education for over 40 years as a teacher, principal, and more recently as the Head of the Primary School at Middelton Grange until 2022.

Now I spend my time teaching part-time, volunteering, running 3 adventure races, and trying to stay fit so that I can keep up with my grandchildren.

I’m looking forward to serving on the ECS Board of Trustees. I want to support the staff, Principal and Christian parents in the very important task of shaping the lives of young people, and delivering a top-quality education.

Congratulations to Hudson

Congratulations to Hudson McConchie who competed in the BMX NZ Nationals in Invercargill last week.  Hudson came away with an NZ8 plate.

This inspiring and well-crafted film suited for Children and Families, which follows a boy (Walter) discovering hope through Jesus’ story, features the beautiful original song “Live Like That” by Kristin Chenoweth—a perfect reflection of love and redemption.
