There was great excitement here at school on Tuesday with the visit of the City Libraries van for the morning. The librarian recorded an amazing 250 visits over the five hours, which included some children visiting again, and again – and sometimes again!
If children had current library membership (i.e. they were found in the database), Wendy allowed them to borrow. If you wish, you may return those books to me or any of the branch libraries around the city. They are due on Tuesday 5th September, which happens to be the next scheduled library van visit. Naturally, the books may be returned to the bus on that day.
I am aware that many families live outside the Christchurch metropolitan area; Ōrauwhata: Bishopdale Library is our local library, and is found at the far end of the mall, just around the corner from the YMCA, also accessible from Raleigh Street.
If your child has a completed membership form (they are able to maintain free membership until 19 years of age), ring the library, or go in, to organise a PIN number. You need this for issuing books and other resources, and also for accessing the amazing eResources.
The library staff will be only too happy to help you find your way around the website, or feel free to ask me.
Finally, if you have bored children, who are stuck inside on a miserable weekend, take them into Tūranga for a couple of hours. Investigate the Discovery Wall, the “imagination station”, duplo pit for younger ones, dress-ups, PlayStations – and even a café on site! Open 10:00 – 5:00 Saturdays and Sundays.
Any questions, just ask.
