ECS Update Term 2, Week 9 – Friday 23rd June 2023
|
|
Kia ora Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome to the Term 2, Week 9 Newsletter.
In what has been a busy term, there has been lots to celebrate. We started the term with the Year 5 and 6 camps and the Esther musical production and the term has continued to be full of different activities. Winter sport, Elgregoe visited, students involved in Reading competitions and School photos just to name a few.
Over several years now our Year 9 and 10 students have supported the Christchurch City Council by spending time each year removing graffiti across the city. This year having been nominated by the council team, they received a Volunteering Canterbury award which was presented this week. While the purpose of serving is not to achieve recognition, it is always great to have this encouragement along the way. My thanks to these students and to Mr Hitchen’s for the ongoing work in this area.
Next week we will send a final update email for the Term on Wednesday. School finishes for the term on Wednesday 28th June as our Teachers are all joining with 500 of our Christian School collegues from across New Zealand at the NZ Association of Christian Schools Teachers’ conference.
Ngå mihi nui

Year 9 Readers’ Cup Competition
|
|
Our school team of Amelia Francis, Lilia Kanjo, Noah Langford and Samuel Rosser did us proud at the Canterbury-wide competition held at Tūranga this week. The team had to read six books in preparation for the event, and then work together to answer questions on each book – at around 30 seconds per question!
I was extremely proud of the students; they were great ambassadors for Emmanuel Christian School, and while we did not get on to the podium, it was a memorable experience, I am sure!
Thank you, too, to the parents and siblings who supported us!
A heads up to this year’s Year 8 readers: I will be scouting for a team in Term 1 next year!

We would appreciate it if you could take the time to complete this survey and share your views on this important topic. The survey will remain open until Wednesday 26th July (Term 3 Week 2).
Thank you

Hall Piano – Fundraising (Mufti Day)
|
As you are likely aware we have started the process of raising funds to replace the piano in the hall. The current piano has served the school well for many years, however, it is now in need of replacement.
A donor has offered to match the donations received from a School muftiday to help us with this process. We will hold a Mufti day to support this fundraising on Tuesday 27th June.
On this day students can wear tidy mufti in return for a gold coin donation to contribute towards the piano replacement.
