Kia ora Parents and Caregivers,
Our appologies for the incorrect email you received a few minutes ago.
I trust you have seen in our newsletters over the last weeks that this Tuesday evening at 7:00pm we are hosting an event for parents around online safety and protecting our kids from pornography.
Tuesday 20 September
7-8:30pm
Emmanuel Christian School Middle School Block
Brett Harvey who is presenting this has a strong personal faith in Christ and this is an important part of what he will share about this important topic.
This is an area we all need to learn about, and build skills and knowledge to support our children.
This information is really relevant to parents from all year levels of the school.
Please note this is not an event that is suitable for bringing your children with you.
Topics will include:
- Is porn such a big deal?
- Impact of pornography
- Expectations on young people and their sexuality
- Fantasy vs reality
- Choice or Addiction
- Healthy relationships
- Talking with your kids about porn
- How can I support my kids?
- What can I put in place at home?
In today’s digital world, young people being exposed to pornography isn’t a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’. Pornography is sweeping through our society like a tsunami, and we have yet to see the long-term impacts. By providing strategies that allow parents and kids to work as a team, we can mitigate the harmful effects of pornography on Aotearoa’s young people.
Tāima Kōrero equips parents and educators with the tools to effectively talk about pornography with young people. By having the right conversations in a timely way, we can reduce the impact of pornography and support our young people to have healthy sexual relationships as adults.
Brett Harvey will share from his own experience, research and within the framework of his personal Christian faith.
Would be great to see you on Tuesday night.
Blessings
Alistair
